María Esteban Trio – Abensberger Frühlingsgefühle

Das MARIA ESTEBAN TRÍO ist ein spanisches Jazz-Projekt, bestehend aus María Esteban (Gesang), Eddie Mejía (Gitarre) und David Muñoz (Kontrabass). Seine Wurzeln liegen im traditionellen Jazz mit einem starken Einfluss von großen Sängern und Sängerinnen wie Frank Sinatra, Sara Vaughan, Bing Crosby, June Christy und Anita O'day, um nur einige zu nennen. Das Projekt entstand aus der Idee, den Jazz des frühen und mittleren 20. Jahrhunderts neu zu interpretieren. Mit diesem gemeinsamen Ziel definieren sie den besonderen Stil, der das María Esteban Trío charakterisiert; ein Stil, der die Ästhetik und den Klang der Ursprünge des traditionellen Jazz und Swing respektiert. Im Mai 2023 Jahres veröffentlichten sie ihr Album Happy Days Are Here Again, das in den UnderPool Studios (Barcelona) aufgenommen und von der Plattenfirma The Changes unterstützt wurde. Bei ihren Konzerten in Spanien und auch im Ausland präsentieren sie dieses Album.
„Ihr neues Werk, Happy Days Are Here Again, besteht aus sechs Jazzstandards, angeführt von einem Klassiker von Milton Yellen und Jack Ager der in den zarten und erfahrenen Händen dieser Gruppe eine Subtilität erlangt, die uns in einen Raum einführt, der Optimismus, Farbe und gute Laune atmet und die tiefe Bedeutung des Wortes "cool" einfängt“ (Isabel Guerrero).

María Esteban (voice and musical director)
Born in Málaga. Her passion for music led her to start her artistic career at a young age with different musical formations. In 2021, the Society of Interpreters, Artists or Performers of Spain granted her the AIE High Specialization Scholarship to study her last year at the Superior Conservatory of Music of the Liceu (Barcelona) in the specialty of Jazz Singing and Modern Music. Throughout all these years she has trained with different musicians from the jazz scene: Deborah Carter, Ernesto Aurigac, Carme Canela, David Mengual, Judy Nieckmack, Horacio Fumero, Martín Leiton and Giulia Valle, among others. She has participated in various festivals such as: L´Hora del Jazz Festival 2022, Festival “La Edad de Oro” 2022 (Málaga), La Semana del Jazz de Candás Festival 2022, MOSMA Festival 2020 with the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra, The Baja Bop Red Hot Rockin Festival (Los Ángeles), Rock This Town Festival (Solothurn, Suiza), 24º Rocking Race Jamboree (Torremolinos, Málaga), 26º XXIX Málaga International Jazz Festival, Nájera Jazz Festival (2020/2017), En Clave de Agua Festival 2016 (Soria), Sintonizz Festival 2016 (Barcelona), 8º Festival Rencontres du 9ème Art (Aix-en-Provence, Francia), XIX Málaga Film Festival, 39º Getxo Jazz Festival, El Porton del Jazz Festival 2015/2016 (Málaga, Alhaurín de La Torre).
She took part in the Spanish tour “Slowly Speeding” led by guitarist Mario Cobo and American singer Kim Lenz. For four years she was the singer of the group Red Rombo founded by Gerard Mases, ex-bass player of Muchachito Bombo Infierno. Throughout this stage she recorded two albums produced by Mario Cobo in which musicians such as Dani Nello, former saxophonist of Los Rebeldes, and Mario Cobo himself as guitarist collaborated. In 2017 the band was chosen for the Girando por Salas Circuit.

Eddie Mejía – Guitar.
Eddie Mejía is a guitar player and composer born in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, currently living in Barcelona, Catalunya. Eddie began playing the guitar at the age of 11 under the influence of jazz, blues, folk and other music genres. Mejía himself mentions Pat Metheny, Ornette Coleman and Keith Jarrett as his inspirational focus. He began his career with pianist Samuel Martínez Herrera. Later he moved to Barcelona to begin his higher studies at the Liceu Conservatory, where he graduated last year and was a finalist for the Extraordinary Prize for Jazz and Modern Performance. At the Conservatory he was a student of professors Bill McHenry, Jordi Bonell and Jaume Llombart, among others.
His debut album "A Moment In Transition" features an stelar sextet including Bill McHenry, Edu Cabello, Milena Casado, Masa Kamaguchi and Ramon Prats was published by Fresh Sound New Talent in March of 2023.

David Muñoz (double bass)
Born in Murcia. He began his double bass studies at the age of 15 with musicians such as Pepe Pérez, Antonio Peñalver and Pepe Zaragoza, among others. In 2019 he accesses the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) to study the specialty of jazz double bass. His participation in various competitions stands out, such as the Cartagena Jazz Festival, MuniJazz Festival, Voll-Damm Barcelona Jazz Festival 2021, San Javier Jazz Festival, La Mar de Músicas, etc. He is currently part of the Alquibla theater production company where he is active with the play Mucho Ruido About Nothing. He was also part of the quintet of the Barcelona singer and trumpeter Alba Armengou. In 2020, together with the Kukundé Quintet project, he won the second prize in the Spanish National Competition for Musical Youths. With him he has performed different concerts in venues and festivals throughout Spain.
